Holy Week

Clearing space

Holy Week is the final part of Lent: a sacred journey from Jesus' entry into Jerusalem to the Cross and the silence of the tomb.

Holy Week begins with disruption. Jesus enters the Temple and overturns tables, clearing space for prayer and presence. It's a startling image - and a reminder that sometimes we need to let go of what clutters our lives to make room for God.

Read Matthew 21: 12 - 16

Jesus disrupting the Temple, is also a demonstration of making space for God by challenging systems that exclude or marginalise.

Take a moment today to notice what fills your inner space. Are there habits, worries, or distractions that crowd out peace? What would it look like to clear a little space for God's spirit?

Fruitfulness and faith

Read Matthew 21: 18 - 22

Jesus curses a fig tree and speaks of faith that bears fruit. It's a vivid picture of what happens when life looks full but lacks depth. Holy Week invites us to trust in unseen abundance, even when things feel lifeless.

Where do you feel barren or stuck? What would it mean to believe that God's grace is still at work beneath the surface?

Lord Jesus,

You spoke to the fig tree and revealed that what looks full of life on the outside can still be barren within. Teach us to trust you even when our own branches feel empty. When circumstances seem lifeless, remind us that youo are the God of unseen abundance, working beneath the surface long before we can perceive it.

When we feel stuck, fruitless, or worn thin, breathe your renewing Spirit into us. Root us again in your faithfulness, and help us believe that in your time, new growth will come.

Amen.
